Let me start with some facts about myself.
Eversince I was in middleschool, I have always been chubby. There was a time when I was thin, that was also because i limited my food consumption and went to gym 4 times a week. And now I am back to being chubby and old :]
As an adult woman, I love pampering myself. However, I also learn to be efficient when doing so.
The fact that I am a jobless single mom has really taught me to live much more efficiently now :] thanks to that.
Each month (when i was still working), around 30% my income goes to beauty products. Face, Body, Hair.
When it comes to products for my face, I couldnt be bothered more. Name.. day cream, cleansing milk, face wash, face mask, night cream, BB cream, blush on, eyebrow pencil, mascara, eyeshadow, face serum. These are the ones I can remember at the moment.
Body products could include hand & body lotion, soap, perfume, body scrub, body butter, sole cream.
Thankfully, I only use hair shampoo and conditioner for my hair. And I am not a fan of creambath or hairmask.
Since I wear a hijab, I think it matters only for my future husband later on :]
I try to stay at the backstage, never want to be the center of attention only because of how i appear on the outside.
Nevertheless, I am also a woman, and I can not get rid of the tendency to wanting to look pretty whenever and wherever.
When I have extra money, I run into shops looking for discounts on either clothes or beauty products.
The funny thing is, I believe in all those TV commercials and magazine ads.
I believe that in 14 days after using a brand of shampoo, my hair would look like one of those popular singers’ hair.
I believe that when I use this brand of face cream, I would look a few years younger.
Most of these TV commercials objectify women. They use women with big boobs, gorgeous face, long straight hair, etc etc.
Have you seen an Indonesian paint TV commercial? It shows a woman wearing a transparent white dress who is about to sit on a park bench which has just been repainted. The woman is shocked and looks a bit angry, stands up, and starts moving her lower part of the dress and shows her thighs and buttocks?
A few days after it was aired, it was censored.
Another TV commercial in Indonesia, showing two girls, one with a dark skin and the other having a fair skin.
The woman with dark skin seems to get no attention at all, but after using a whitening face cream, she suddenly gets all the attention from even other women.
The funny & the stupid thing is, I also believe that the more beautiful my face is, the fewer freckles are on my face, and the slimmer I am, and the fairer and whiter skin tone I have, people would see me as a better person. Am I being funny or being stupid? Both I guess.
How could that make sense? Where is the link between being beautiful and how modest and kind we are?
Facts are happening in Korea. Everyone is dying for facial surgeries. Parents even give their children a facial surgery as their 17th year old birthday present. They think there are only two ways of becoming successful in Korea, either with beauty or you must be really smart! Sadly, Koreans are usually born with a square-like face and small slanted eyes. Therefore, facial surgery is always the best option for young Koreans who want to
But that is the truth.
We go to school, we are fed by tons of type of education, we learn about fiction and non fiction writings. Still, we buy those lies.
Here are some facts about advertising, sexualism, and women
There is only one illness people can never cure, the illness of aging.
Usamah ibn Shuraik narrated that The Prophet pbuh said:
“… ‘O Allah’s Messenger! Should we seek medical treatment for our illnesses?’ He replied: ‘Yes, you should seek medical treatment, because Allah, the Exalted, has let no disease exist without providing for its cure, except for one ailment, namely, old age’.”Tirmidhi
Buy a million dollar cream, and we will still age and eventually die, because our hormones also age.. no matter how hard we try to avoid the phase.
Live in a castle with windows to protect you from sunlight, we will still age.
We will have wrinkles soon, we’ll grey hair on our heads, we’ll get weaker and our body won’t be functioning anymore.
That is called life cycle When we are babies we are helped a lot, later on when we are adults we help the small ones and the old ones, when we are old we will have to be assisted by the younger ones.
